When was the last time that you were able to get your laundry done and get some exercise in at the same time? Never (unless you were stranded on Gilligan’s Island). That is about to change thanks to designers at China’s Dalian Nationalities University.

More and more people want to live off the grid these days, but one issue these modern minimalist pioneers face is how to wash their clothes properly without having access to a traditional machine. Well, Yirego has a solution.

Redittor lava_lump wanted something different for a home aquarium, so with the help of a friend, he turned this front load washer into an awesome fish haven. I just hope he doesn’t start the spin cycle by accident.

Some of you may know YouTuber Buddhanz as the guy who owns an angry ram named Angry Ram. If his pet goat is off the rails, Buddhanz is off the grid. The resourceful Kiwi is able to generate enough power for daily use thanks to a nearby stream and his washing machine generator.

Can you imagine how many busted washing machines there are in the world? We need to start doing something with all of those parts. The art studio L’Atelier d’Orel is on the case. They upcycle all kinds of old objects into fresh artful pieces of furniture.

Washing clothes shouldn’t be rocket science, but you’d be forgiven for thinking that when you look at the controls of modern washing machines. So when cloud services company Berg set out to create a prototype for an Internet-connected washing machine, they didn’t want to smarten it up just so it can tweet which socks you prefer.

Don’t have enough space in your apartment for a washing machine? You could always send your dirty stuff off to the laundry or get a tabletop washing machine instead. This thing is so small and compact that you can actually just keep it on your, well, tabletop.

So you need to do some laundry and feel like getting some exercise in at the same time? Then what you need is the Hula Washer.

Back in college, I had this friend who breathed, ate, and slept with nothing in mind but his video games. Counter Strike, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy – you name it, he’s played. He also failed classes regularly, but last I heard, he’s into his final semester at school already.

Now I’m sure you’ve heard dryers and washing machines make sounds – knocking or metallic noises or even rumbles – when the load is unbalanced, but this washing machine wasn’t making a sound, It was making music.

Remember that little clip we posted the other day, showing off the cataclysmic destruction left in the wake of throwing bricks in a washing machine? Well I can officially tell you that I like this new version better.

When I was a kid my grandmother had this set of plates that had gold leaf on them. When she got her first microwave, I used to sneak into the kitchen and put one of the plates in the microwave to see the sparks it created.

Today’s washing machines are anything but stylish. If you ask me they look like burly, angry computers. But if Electrolux has its way, we’ll soon be able to say the words “washing machine” and “sexy” in the same sentence.
