The touch-friendly interface of Windows 8 led to the rise of portable computers with touchscreens. Those that run Windows 8 often have decent specs, enough to run modern PC games. The problem is that almost none of these games are optimized for touchscreens.

Microsoft was late to enter the tablet wars and paid for it dearly. But the company isn’t giving up just yet. Today it unveiled Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, the updated versions of its Surface – formerly known as Surface RT –  and Surface Pro tablets.

A couple of years ago, Tobii made headlines when they unveiled their eye-tracking sensor. We first saw it installed on a laptop and then on gaming machines. Now Tobii wants to ride the tablet revolution with the EyeMobile, an add-on for Windows 8 Pro tablets.

The desktop computer market is pretty much stagnant as more and more consumers move to notebooks, tablets, and smartphones as their primary devices. One of the bright spots in the desktop computer market continues to be the all-in-one computer or AIO.

If you find yourself with a serious hankering for a tablet able to run the same software as your computer at home or work, you’re probably going to need to invest in a Windows 8 tablet.

Panasonic has pulled the covers off a couple new tablets that fall in the company’s rugged Toughpad line. The most interesting, and expensive of these new tablets is the ToughPad FZ-G1. The tablet has a 10.1-inch screen and runs Windows 8 Pro.

Ultrabook is definitely one of those buzzwords that has been overused in the past couple of years, as PC manufacturers try to put their own spin on MacBook-like laptops. Now, with the release of Windows 8, there are a plethora of new ultrabooks that offer some pretty cool options.

The Surface that we have today is quite different from the Surface that Microsoft introduced in 2007. For one thing, the Surface tablets are way smaller than the old Surface, which was supposed to be a tabletop computer.

Microsoft today announced the official details on availability and pricing for their hotly-anticipated Surface tablet. The first model available is the Surface RT, which runs Windows RT, and will initially ship in three configurations.

Back during CES 2012, I had a chance to go hands-on with Vizio’s sexy new all-in-one PCs, and I was quite impressed with the industrial design, build quality and overall value at the time. With the impending release of Microsoft Windows 8, Vizio has announced two new AIO PCs with full 1080p touchscreen displays.

It looks like all the big companies now have got an 8 megapixel camera in their smartphones, and although I’ve had one for almost a year on my iPhone, I am somewhat disappointed that no one has released a smartphone with a better camera, except that PureView craziness Nokia released.

We’ve all been there. You are playing a game or doing some important work and suddenly Windows crashes and the dreaded Blue Screen of Death  (BSoD) shows up. Normally that gives you a sad face, but with Windows 8, Microsoft feels your pain and shows you a sad face of their own.

I’ve been fortunate enough with my current desktop PC never to have seen the Blue Screen of Death, but it was a common occurrence in Windows Vista, Windows XP and many versions before it. While it hasn’t completely eliminated error messages, it looks like Microsoft has decided to change the colors of the infamous BSoD from blue to black in the upcoming Windows 8.
