10 Fictional Cats We Need As Pets

Cats bring so much joy into our lives that it’s hard not to be swayed just by looking at them. These furry friends are a ball of warmth in real life, but their fictional versions don’t fall short either.

There are many games, shows, and movies that feature some of the friendliest babies you just can’t resist.

1. Princess Doughnut Cat

From the book trilogy Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman, Princess Doughnut Cat is one of the most adorable fur balls you want to befriend. Not only is this tortoiseshell Persian cat an absolute boss leading her very own royal court, but she’s also a national winner. One look at her, and you’ll fall head over heels.

2. Hobbes

From the American comic strip Calvin & Hobbes, this cute ray of sunshine is all you need on a rainy day. The entire theme of the comic is based around a young boy, Calvin, and his best mate, Hobbes. Although Hobbes is only a stuffed animal in the series, this quirky, whimsical bundle of joy will melt your heart.

3. Garfield

If you’re a 90s or early 2000s baby, you’ll know which iconic cat I’m referring to here. Garfield is so famous that not only are there comics about him, but also several movies and cartoons that are a stress reliever even when you’re old. This chunky boy is lazy and loves eating lasagna. He’s basically me if I was a cat.

4. Jiji

Black cats are often objects of discrimination because they’re generally associated with bad omens and spooky things like Halloween. But they’re some of the most precious furry friends you can have.

Similarly, Jiji is a fictional black cat featured in director Hayao Miyazaki’s Kiki’s Delivery Service. Not only is he adorable, but he also has magical powers, so you won’t even be threatened for food.

5. Bill the Cat

Crafted by cartoonist Berkeley Breathed in his comic strip Bloom County, Bill is an orange cat mostly seen sitting around blabbering gibberish that doesn’t make a lot of sense. Even though Bill only utters things like “Ack!” and raspberries, his big, round eyes, coupled with a colossal tongue sticking out, are iconic. He makes the perfect companion because he does whatever he wants whenever he wants.

6. Salem Saberhagen

Salem Saberhagen, from Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, a sitcom dating back to the 90s, is actually a 500-year-old witch who was sentenced by the council of witches to live out 100 years as a cat. Why? Because he tried to take over the world. If you want powerful friends in higher places, Salem is the perfect fit.

7. Felix the Cat

Probably one of the most well-known cartoon cats you’ll see anywhere, Felix was meticulously crafted in the “rubber hose” style with big eyes, a wide mouth, and the standard chunky hands with slim arms. Felix has a kind heart and always wants to help everyone, making him the most loyal companion you can have.

8. Greebo

What’s better than a fictional character from your favorite book? A fictional cat who’s the absolute boss. Introduced in the Discworld books, Greebo has a scar on one of his eyes. He can be warm and sweet to those he likes, but if you’re not on that list, you better run in the opposite direction because he’s killed and eaten vampires.

9. Puss in Boots

If you haven’t heard of Puss in Boots, from the Shrek franchise, you’re living under a rock because he’s one of the most charming film characters you’ll ever see. Even though he sometimes acts a little silly, he’s an all-around warrior and will smooth-talk his way into your heart.

10. Catbus

A unique fur ball that doubles as an entire functioning bus, Catbus is featured in the hit Studio Ghibli film My Neighbor Totoro (1988). You can go from one place to another, and its eyes function like headlights to avoid incoming traffic. No fuel costs and a purring engine? Sign me up.
