10 Fictional Characters That We’d Vote For President

In today’s political climate, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who would be universally supported as President of the United States due to prevailing political beliefs. However, if you include fictional characters as potential candidates, people suddenly throw political affiliations out the window!

1. BEN WYATT

Even though this Parks and Rec character was behind the ill-fated Ice Town, countless fans of the show believe that his character went through enough trials and tribulations throughout the show’s run to become a man that could be the next president! His easy-going demeanor, combined with his irreverent dorkiness, could be just what Americans need in their leader.

2. DR. STRANGE

One of the most beloved characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe would make an excellent President simply because, well, as one fan spells it out for the rest of us, “The dude can literally see all possible futures, so he will choose to do exactly the right thing every single time.” I can’t argue with that logic! So when’s the next Election Day?

3. JACK BAUER

Many people subscribe to the theory that suggests that main characters in action movies or shows would make perfect leaders of nations. I agree with this theory, as 24‘s Jack Bauer would easily handle foreign relationships and domestic threats. After all, he made a living traversing that kind of rocky terrain for many seasons. As a bonus, according to countless people, ol’ Jack is easy on the eyes, too!

4. JOHN MCLANE

The people have spoken: you can’t have a list that includes Jack Bauer without including John McLane! The hero of the Die Hard films is high on the list of many fans’ hypothetical presidential candidates, as McLane is as tough as they come – and he’s seen it all now. Honestly, I’d most appreciate the one-liners he’d offer up during important speeches, complete with a few well-earned curse words.

5. JEAN-LUC PICARD

Star Trek fans were near-unanimous in throwing Jean-Luc Picard’s name into the ring for consideration. One Trekkie explains why he’d make a great president, as only a true fan can. “Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the Starship Enterprise would make an exemplary president because he’s a scholar, a gentleman, a diplomat, and a badass chief officer,” he says, running down Picard’s accolades.

6. CAPTAIN AMERICA

Sometimes, the most obvious choices are the right choices. Captain America is the most no-brainer pick for the highest office in the nation, and for a good reason: he lives and breathes red, white, and blue. The American public would also never have to witness him aging while serving his terms, which is an obvious plus.

7. ELLE WOODS

When the time comes that a woman becomes president of the United States, movie buffs can’t think of a better person for the job than Legally Blonde‘s Elle Woods. Imagine a world where all countries get along with each other, there are no wars, and the planet enters a new age of prosperity and happiness. Many people believe that’s the kind of world we could expect if Elle Woods was elected president.

8. LESLIE KNOPE

As much as Parks and Rec fans clamor for Ben Wyatt to become the next president, his wife, Leslie Knope, may be an even better option. She may be the most loving and caring character ever created, and these qualities would translate into her treating the job with plenty of respect. Of course, Leslie would get America into some pickles now and then, but I’m sure she could get herself out of any jam in about, say, 20 minutes (not including commercials).

9. CHEWBACCA

Let’s be honest: Chewbacca wouldn’t be the best president the United States had ever had, but Chewy would be the most entertaining and beloved! However, the communication barrier between him and other world leaders would be an issue. Still, on the plus side, each year, Americans would be subject to the most hilarious and wonderful State of the Union address ever!

10. LISA SIMPSON

Here’s a fictional character I would vote for in a heartbeat: Lisa Simpson. As clearly the most intelligent member of the Simpsons family, her empathy and sense of right and wrong would immediately thrust her into the pantheon of best leaders ever. To many Americans who grew up watching The Simpsons, it would seem fitting that one of the most influential characters in television history would become one of the most influential presidents.

Never judge a book by its cover. You can say the same about movies.

Some of our favorite films are the ones we went into with no expectations. Despite this, they blew us away from start to finish.
