Hidden Features That Will Unlock Your Phone’s Full Potential

Apple has sold over 2 billion iPhones since their release in 2007. With every software update, the iPhone gains new features. However, some features are hidden behind menus. While most of these hidden options are insignificant, some can change how people use their phones.

1. Text Replacement

If used correctly, smartphones help people better themselves and improve productivity. One way they can do this is by using text replacement. The iPhone keyboard implements text replacement on a system level. It allows users to replace specific symbols with their custom information. For example, “@” can be replaced with a user’s email address. Text replacement might only save a few seconds, but that amounts to a lot by the end of the day.

2. Guided Access

Children start using technology at younger ages all the time, but only some apps are meant for children. The guided access feature can prevent kids from switching to any other app. It lets users lock their screens to a specific app. Guided access also functions as a reliable way to protect sensitive information from prying friends.

3. White Point Reduction

Sometimes, even the lowest brightness setting doesn’t feel dim enough. In such cases, adjusting the white point helps make screens more viewable in dimmer rooms. Reducing the white point minimizes the intensity of the white color itself. Apple has added other greyscale settings for the same purpose. Users now have multiple ways to decrease their screen brightness. This can help people to avoid feeling overstimulated, as well as prevent eye fatigue and migraines.

4. Music Timer

Users no longer need to worry about falling asleep with their music still playing. With an iPhone, the music can be set on a timer. This helps people preserve their phones’ battery life and avoid waking up to loud songs. Users must choose to stop the music when the timer ends in the settings beforehand.

5. Exchanging Contacts

Taking the time to add a new contact can be bothersome. With iOS 17, adding contacts is simple. People can share their contacts easily by putting two iPhones together. Apple also provides users with additional customization on which information to share. Certain exceptions can be made to maintain privacy and only share what people allow.

6. Back Tap

Not every shortcut requires tapping the screen or buttons. Some function by tapping the back of the device. This unique feature is hidden in the “Accessibility” tab. Users can create their own custom shortcuts for specific actions. Many power users tap two times to open the flashlight and three to activate the power-saving mode. However, the options are endless, and it is entirely up to the user to decide what to do.

7. Laundry Care

Each clothing item comes with its own tags. These tags always have certain laundry symbols on them, but only a few know their meaning. Those who don’t know can use the photo app instead. The Visual Look Up app scans the symbols and provides users with a detailed explanation of what they mean. Users will never have to worry again about ruining their clothes due to washing them incorrectly.

8. Safari Links

Having to copy-paste links to the Safari browser can be irritating. Instead, users can hold the link and select the option to open it in Safari. However, the fastest way is to tap the link with two fingers to open it directly in Safari. Users don’t have to do any additional steps. This feature is straightforward and convenient yet not widely used.

9. Ground Level

In the age of social media, everyone wants the perfect picture. Activating the grid in the camera makes it easier to frame images. However, enabling the level setting can further improve still photographs. Simply align the two crosshairs on the screen to ensure a perfectly level photo.

10. Screen Distance

Many of us have an unhealthy habit of using our phones most of the day. As a result, screen time rises to astronomical levels, which isn’t good for our eyesight. Fortunately, the iPhone has a few features to alleviate eye strain, such as “screen distance.” By turning this on, users are alerted if they’re holding their phones too close to their eyes.
