LEGO Builders Construct 1:1 Scale Replica Of Ferrari 296 GTS For LEGOLAND Florida

To promote the upcoming opening of the Ferrari Build & Race attraction at the amusement park, LEGOLAND Florida just unveiled a 1:1 scale replica of a Ferrari 296 GTS. The plastic supercar measures 15 feet in length, 7.5 feet wide, 4 feet tall, and weighs over 2 tons. For reference, that’s about 600 pounds heavier than the actual Ferrari it’s based on. I guess all those little bricks really add up!

The car took ten expert builders 1,850 hours (77 days) to construct and includes “working headlights, taillights, and license-plate illumination.” It also has a driver-side door that opens and what is arguably the least comfortable interior I’ve ever seen. Its tires and steering wheel are from an actual Ferrari, presumable because making structurally sound circles out of LEGO is notoriously tricky.

There’s no official word on the total piece count of the build, but if it’s anything like previous full-scale model cars LEGO has constructed, it’s around 350,000. That’s a lot of pieces, and at an average cost of $0.10 a piece, that works out to $35,000. Considering a genuine GTS costs around $372,000, that’s a substantial savings. This one just won’t win any races. Or start at all.
