LEGO Retro Radio: Not Just Another Brick In The Wall

With over 17 years of writing experience, Jonathan has had a passion for all things tech-related, ever since watching Inspector Gadget as a child. He's disassembled countless appliances and managed to put a few back together, and one still works. When not writing, he can often be found playing video games or accidentally hurting himself in the garage.

Being released as part of LEGO’s Icons building series (formerly known as Lego Creator Expert), the Retro Radio is a 906-piece set in the style of a 1970s transistor radio. The set even includes a battery-powered 4×4 Soundbrick that plays 13 different retro radio sounds.

Set #10334 will be available June 1st for $100 and features an on/off dial that allows the Soundbrick to be engaged, and turning the tuning dial presses its button and plays some static and one of its 13 sound effects. The mechanisms inside that make it all work are really quite ingenious, and looks fun to build. The set also includes a moveable antenna, handle, and oozes with delicious retro style.

Perhaps the radio’s best feature is a compartment in the back to put your smartphone so you can listen to music on your phone through the radio’s “speaker.” How clever is that? You could probably convince your friends that you built a functional radio out of LEGO. At least I know I could convince my friends. They’re…gullible.
