Recent scientific discoveries keep getting weirder and weirder. Is it better to know more, or is there some stuff that should be left a mystery?

Discovery can include objects, events, how things work, reasons why they happen, and their features. It also covers ideas and guesses about why or how things occur.

This list of discoveries could change how you see the world and make you question some of your assumptions.

1. The Pyramids On Mars

For years, rumors about pyramids seen on Mars have been getting the side eye. People chalk them up to pareidolia, where familiar objects appear in random patterns. The debate intensified when an image released by NASA came under the scanner.

The photos were of pyramids in Mars’s Cynodia region. Some believe these triangular structures to be an ancient Martian civilization, while others argue they are nothing more than eroded hills or dunes.

2. Ancient Sword in Perfect Condition

Picture life 3,000 years ago in what we call Germany today. Tribes lived in wooden houses, practiced agriculture and hunting, and frequently waged wars. This sword likely fell into the river during one of those conflicts.

The sword was eventually found near Nördlingen in a grave with a man, woman, and a child (possibly a family), among other bronze artifacts. However, the weapon, which dates back to the late 14th century BC, stood out due to its exceptional condition and design.

3. iPhone Spotted In Ancient Painting

Art lovers around the world have yet to be able to solve this mystery. Some are even speculating about time travel. The Betrothal of Burns and Highland Mary shows poet Robert Burns and Mary Campbell clutching what looks like an iPhone.

But here’s the problem: The artist painted the painting in 1882, 125 years before the first iPhone appeared.

4. The Space Between Earth And The Moon

The longest distance between the Earth and the Moon is 238,555 miles (384,400 km) at their highest orbits. How many planets can fit between Earth and the Moon? We’re afraid you’re incorrect if you guessed fewer than “all in our solar system.”

You might be wondering, “Even Jupiter?” The answer is yes, especially Jupiter. And interestingly, this would cause all life on Earth to cease to exist.

5. The Danish Skull

In Denmark, on the island of Zeeland, workers doing infrastructure repairs stumbled on a mysterious skull with huge eye sockets. This description fits the profile of every large-eyed alien we’ve seen in movies. Scientists say this well-preserved artifact belonged to someone who lived in the 13th century.

Some archaeologists suggest it might be the skull of an extraterrestrial, citing its alien-like features. Since no one discovered any other remains, this opened up many theories that aliens had visited the Earth.

6. The San Pedro Mountain Mummy

In 1932, gold miners in the San Pedro Mountains, Wyoming, discovered a mysterious seven-inch mummy with a distorted skull and bulging eyes. Initially considered an ancient doll, X-ray analysis confirmed its authenticity, showing a skeletal structure and preserved nails.

Theories about its origins ranged from a child’s mummy to a legendary dwarf or even an alien. But even a newborn’s mummy wouldn’t be just seven inches tall. However, the mummy disappeared later in the 20th century, leaving its mysteries unsolved and fueling ongoing conspiracy theories.

7. The Sun Is Cooler Than What It’s Heating

We’ve all learned the first law of thermodynamics in seventh-grade physics: heat travels from a hot place to a not-so-hot place. The scorching star of heat known as the Sun seems to laugh in the face of this logic.

In 1939, scientists discovered that the area a few hundred miles from the Sun is 200 times hotter than its surface.

8. The Quantum Zeno Effect

The evidence of decay is visible everywhere in nature. But if you examine certain chemical elements closely, they seize up like a pot of water that refuses to boil.

It’s similar to staring at last night’s leftover meatloaf so it won’t go bad. This paradox defies the law of entropy, logic, and common sense.

9. Lluvia De Peces (Rain Of Fish)

Since the 18th century, water spouts have sucked the fish from the ocean and dropped them in the small town of Yoro, Honduras. Locals have since believed their town’s mysterious fish rain was a miracle. Capitalizing on the opportunity, two fish companies have named the town’s miracle “Heaven Fish,” creating business ventures for the locals.

Scientists still need to figure out what causes the water tornadoes to pull fish from the Atlantic Ocean and dump them 45 miles away.

10. The Baltic Sea Anomaly

In June 2011, the Swedish OceanX diving team discovered a strange object on the Baltic Sea floor. Scientists speculate it to be more than 14,000 years old. Its strange yet familiar, man-made-esque looks resemble a spaceship.

It stretches about 300 meters from its location, making it look like an ancient underwater crash site or temple. The latter wouldn’t be surprising, considering how other ancient structures eventually sank. But its true identity remains a mystery.

11. The Longyou Grottoes

Found near the village of Xi’an Beikong Zhejiang province in China, the Longyou Grottoes hint at the possibility of an advanced ancient civilization that lasted over 2,000 years. These are 36 in number and span over 30,000 square meters, covering many skillfully crafted rooms, yachts, and pools.

As scientists dig deeper, the possibility of an ancient and intelligent civilization is more apparent.

12. The Flyby Anomaly

The law of conservation of energy states that energy can’t be created or destroyed. It can only be transferred. This means that you’ll never get more energy from something than what you initially added.

But our satellites tell a different tale. Since 1990, many unexplainable reports have shown satellites gaining speed when circling the Earth. Some people think someone is messing with us.

13. The Black Hole

The Black Hole has scientists scratching their heads from the very second it was discovered in 1964. It acts as a dimensional pocket that sucks in everything, including light. Even though we can’t peek inside a black hole, scientists claim that the increasing mass of a black hole is consistent with what it captures.

Black holes disintegrate over time, including everything they had sucked in, leaving no trace of their existence.

14. The Placebo Effect

At the right time and place, nothing can be everything. Scientists and doctors have been aware of the placebo effect for decades. It involved tricking patients into thinking a sham treatment had real therapeutic results.

In some instances, the placebos were so strong that they replicated the results of the actual medication. It doesn’t make sense. Does this mean the human mind can influence health through the power of belief alone?

15. Japan’s Yonaguni Monument

Discovered by scuba divers in the 1980s, the Yonaguni monument in Japan hints at yet another intelligent civilization that lived before us. The monument’s structure includes a pyramid, a castle, roads, a pool, and a stadium.

The aesthetics and the animal carvings on the stone walls indicate that this has been here for a while. The exact date is yet to be determined.
