15 Places That Feel Like You Are Visiting Another World

There are beautiful places, and then there are places that make you feel like you’ve left this world. Whether it’s a mountain range that takes your breath away or the clearest blue ocean that beckons you to dive in, there are some crazy, incredible places to visit.

1. Iceland

Photos don’t do justice to Iceland’s beauty. The northern lights, glaciers, Blue Lagoon, waterfalls, and volcanoes are all part of Iceland’s landscape. Travelers have said that when they reached the top of some glaciers, they felt transported to another planet.

Walk among the geologic goblins of Goblin Valley. Over the years, wind and water have caused the sandstone formations to erode and change making them appear goblin-like. This strange phenomenon is like nothing else you’ve seen on Earth.

3. The Arabian Desert

The Arabian Desert features valleys and mountains of sand. It’s Asia’s largest desert. Visitors have noted how strange it was to see sand in every direction and how other-worldly it felt during a sandstorm.

From beach towns to desert dunes, vast open plains, and bustling cities, the variety of scenery you experience in Namibia is uncommon. Many visitors felt as if they had been transported to another world while driving through this African country.

Tuscon is in the Sonoran Desert and provides views of towering mountains, giant cacti, and other strange-looking flora and fauna. People wonder if they’ve arrived on another planet when they wake up in the morning and look out the window.

8. Faroe Islands

Cliffs, waterfalls that run into the ocean, deep green mountains, and no trees make up the Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic. It’s like nothing you’ve seen before and will have you wondering whether you’ve landed in another world.

9. Socotra Island, Yemen

Socotra Island has a vibrant diversity of flora and fauna and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With 95% of land snail species, 90% of reptile species, and 37% of plant species not found elsewhere, it has an otherworldly atmosphere.

Stonehenge is one of the world’s mysteries, as no one knows who built it or how it was constructed. Many travelers say the attraction has a strange aura, like nothing they’ve felt before.

The Chernobyl accident happened in 1986 when a nuclear power plant exploded. Although buildings and houses are in the area, they’ve been empty for years due to the radiation levels and have an eerie, otherworldly atmosphere.

The rock formations in Joshua Tree National Park are surreal. The Joshua Tree, for which the park is named, is also distinctive and is native to the Southwestern U.S.

15. The Scottish Highlands

The glorious Scottish Highlands are world-renowned for their pristine lochs, lush forests, and rolling mountains. The historical battlefields and castles also add to the feeling that you’ve left Earth and landed in another world — or at least in an earlier century.
