Racing Roomba Takes on an Obstacle Course

 |  |  |  |  July 17, 2017

If you have ever wanted to know what you can do with a 10 year-old Roomba, check out what Roland Saekow did. He turned his aging Roomba Discovery 4210 vacuum into a racing bot.

Watch it take on an obstacle course at UC Berkeley’s annual student vehicle challenge. To amp it up, Roland removed the stock motors and gearbox and replaced them with large 600+ RPM planetary gear motors. He is still using the standard 14 volt Roomba battery though. This thing really zips around, but I don’t think the actual course is up to the power of the mighty Roomba.

Be sure to check out some footage of the other innovative laser cut and 3D printed robots that were on hand. I’m sorry I missed seeing this in person.
