BMW Launches Car Subscription Service

If you have a spare $2000 a month, you might want to buy a second home – or you might want to check out BMW’s new car service. This Netflix-like subscription service recently kicked off a pilot program called “Access by BMW,” which lets subscribers drive various BMW vehicles on demand.

It’s a members-only service that provides unlimited access to a fleet of BMW’s cars for a monthly recurring fee. Through the service, you can order your vehicles via mobile phone app, and have unrestricted access to a selection of BMW vehicles. The price includes insurance, maintenance, and roadside assistance. Cadillac did something similar last with its BOOK service.

You can choose the Legend tier for $2,000 per month and choose from the M2, 4 Series, 5 Series (including the 530e plug-in hybrid), and the X5 (including its PHEV model). For $3,700 per month, you get access to the performance-oriented M cars, including the M4 convertible, M5, M6 convertible, X5M and X6M. That’s obviously way more money than you’d pay to own or lease any individual Bimmer, but if you want to drive a bunch of them with a single, easy payment, this could be the way to go.

For the moment, Access by BMW is available to the residents of Nashville, Tennessee only. It may expand later if it is a success. If this goes well it could show up in other locations soon.
