12 Incredible Films That Need Sequels Immediately

Plenty of bad movies get popular sequels (looking at you, Fast and Furious). Sadly, sensational movies are often left to collect dust in cinematic history. Not every film needs or deserves a sequel, but others were so brilliant that we crave more. While some of these films still offer the slightest bit of hope for a sequel, others have us wondering why a cinematic follow-up was never considered.

1. DISTRICT 9 (2009)

District 9 is a one-of-a-kind movie that grabbed many people’s attention. It offered a fascinating look at what might happen when we finally connect with aliens; the consequences are dark and complicated. The movie was a success, and there was plenty of room for an interesting sequel.

2. THE OTHER GUYS (2010)

Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrel are at the top of their game in The Other Guys as detective partners with very different personalities. The movie is wildly funny and clever, with plenty of big stars in the cast, including Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson. It’s hard to say if a sequel could live up to the original, but many of us want to see it happen.

3. WANTED (2008)

Wanted is one of those films that is simultaneously cheesy and captivating. It takes fight scenes to the next level and has stars like James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman. The film ended in the perfect way to tee up a sequel, as McAvoy’s character is the lone assassin standing and is now free to use his skills as he sees fit. The potential for a sequel is undeniable, yet fans have been left disappointed.

4. GONE IN 60 SECONDS (2000)

Was Gone in 60 Seconds a high-quality movie? Debatable. Do we want a sequel to it? Definitely. Nicolas Cage, Giovanni Ribisi, and Angelina Jolie all play edgy characters that are fun to watch, and the cool cars and dramatic chase scenes are irresistible. Some speculate that Gone in 60 Seconds was left behind because of the success of The Fast and the Furious franchise.

5. SKY HIGH (2005)

Sky High is a charming high school movie, but the characters all have superpowers. The premise of this film is wonderful, with kids who have lame powers, incredible strengths, and super parents. There were rumors of a Sky High sequel called Save U as recent as this past summer, but the conversation is not promising.

6. POINT BREAK (1991)

Point Break is an iconic action movie from the brilliant Kathryn Bigelow. It stars Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves, among other notable names. Why a sequel never happened is unclear, especially considering they unnecessarily remade the movie in 2015. Why fix what’s not broken? We want more of the Point Break story, not a remake.

7. THE NICE GUYS (2016)

The Nice Guys falls into the same vein as The Other Guys, and not just because the titles are similar. This film is just as charming and raunchy in all the right ways, with Ryan Gosling and Russel Crowe as the leading men. We would love a sequel so we can watch these two fellas hilariously bicker and solve more crimes.

8. WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT (1988)

Who Framed Roger Rabbit was a wildly popular movie when it came out, and, for some, it’s their go-to childhood film. So, why didn’t we get a sequel? Nobody knows for sure, but many people wish there was another movie that follows private eye Eddie Valiant and all the other funky characters.

9. GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (2011)

This movie was relatively successful and had a built-in fanbase because many people read the book with the same title. The book had several follow-ups, including The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, and The Girl Who Lived Twice, so it’s a tragedy they didn’t make more movies.

10. WE’RE THE MILLERS (2013)

We’re the Millers is one of the best modern comedies that hits all the right notes with raunchy jokes and heartfelt moments. Fans were previously promised a sequel, but the actors have all but confirmed that it’s not going to happen. But we can all dream, wish, hope, and pray for We’re Still the Millers to become a reality.

11. WORLD WAR Z (2013)

World War Z was a blockbuster despite the market being saturated with zombies. The zombies in the film are ridiculously fast and violent, making it one of the scariest living-dead movies ever made. World War Z 2 was in the works, but, as of now, Paramount pulled the plug and dashed all of our terrifying zombie dreams.

12. DREDD (2012)

Dredd is slowly making its way into the cult classic category as it was not a massive box office success, but many people are passionate about how great the film was. Many online cinephiles lament about the lack of a sequel, but there are little to no rumors about another installment being made.
