10 Messy Foods People Swear You Need a Change of Clothes To Eat

Even if you’re not a messy eater, some foods take a bit of awareness and creativity to eat without getting it all over your clothes. Try as you might, sometimes you still leave the restaurant with a giant stain on your shirt. Our advice? Always use the complimentary bib.

1. Spaghetti

We’ve all seen those videos of kids eating spaghetti and half the meal is all over their faces. Well, adults have a hard time keeping spaghetti off their faces or clothes, too. When the meat sauce is that good, what else do you expect?

2. Powdered Sugar Snacks

Anyone with a sweet tooth can appreciate powdered donuts, beignets, or funnel cake. But that powder falls off so easily that you’ll eventually get covered in a light dusting of sugary powder.

3. Turmeric

It’s peppery, it’s powdery, and it’s vibrantly colored. Unfortunately, this leads to stained, well, everything. Unless you’re into golden-yellow splotches on your new shirt be extra careful around turmeric.

4. Sloppy Joe’s

These sandwiches are called Sloppy Joes for a reason. If you’ve ever had Sloppy Joes for lunch at school, there was always that one kid who got that tomato-y meat sauce all over their clothes. Without fail, someone went home with a Sloppy Joe stain on their shirt.

5. Corn On The Cob

Structurally, corn on the cob is tough to eat. As you’re chomping down on half the cob, the other half is pressed up against your cheek, and little bits of corn inevitably fall onto your clothes. Don’t forget the corn juice that drips down your chin. Yikes.

6. Barbecue Chicken Wings

You’d think the smaller the chicken wing, the easier they are to eat. Some folks still wind up dropping the wings on their pants or drip sauce down the front of their shirt.

7. Ramen

Noodles in broth are both delicious and a hazard. When those loose noodles whip around as you’re slurping them up, they splash all over your clothes. You also have to be extra careful if it’s hot!

8. Tacos

Not everyone is a skilled taco eater, so when that shell cracks or tortilla rips and food comes spilling out—watch out! It takes time to master the art of eating tacos, so until then, make sure you have napkins or a plate to keep your clothes safe.

9. Barbecue Ribs

There’s a reason restaurants and barbecue joints give customers bibs. You can’t avoid eating them with your hands and more often than not, some of that tangy sauce will find its way onto your face, your shirt, and your pants. It’s best to keep an extra pair of clothes in your car.

10. Pomegranate

These juicy fruits are great for a balanced diet. The downside is that its juice stains clothes and can be tough to get out. If you’re preparing a pomegranate, consider wearing an apron or an old pair of clothes you don’t mind dirtying up.
