The folks over at HP have shown the first of what is sure to be a number of HD-DVD drive add-ons for your PC.

HP HD100 HD-DVD Player

Hewlett Packard’s HD100 is an external HD-DVD drive that plugs into your PC’s USB 2.0 port and can read HD DVDs, DVDs and CDs. Read speeds are 2.4x for HD-DVD, 5x for DVD and 14x for CD. HD playback will require a minumum Pentium single-core 840 3.2Ghz or a AMD 64 X2 2.2Ghz processor as well as a nVidia GeForce 7600GT or ATI X1600 card or faster. To output to your TV, you’ll need an HDCP-compliant DVD connection. The HD100 should hit shelves before the end of the year.
