Matrix LCD Watch is Simple and Elegant

January 9th, 2008 by: Paul Strauss

I’ve seen all kinds of strange and unusual digital timepieces from Asia, and most of them are so difficult to read that the novelty wears off quickly. So it makes me happy to see an unconventional LCD watch that’s actually quite easy to understand.

matrix 6001 watch

The Matrix M6001 watch displays time using a set of LCD bars at the top and the bottom of its display. The tall bars on the top indicate the current hour, while the shorter bars on the bottom indicate five-minute intervals. The zero bar on the bottom left is broken into four segments that indicate individual minutes.

The watch has a shiny stainless body with a stitched leather band in one of several colors. Depending on the hue you select, it works amazingly well as either a men’s or women’s watch.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find these outside of Korea at this point. But if you happen to know someone who speaks the language, you might be able to get your hands on one from Funshop.kr on sale for KRW 69,000 (appx. $74 USD).

    Ya but looks feminine.

If you get the pink one, yeah. But I think the black or leather models would be fine for a dude.

  4. Dan says:

I think it’s a little large for a women’s watch, even in pink.

why is it that digital watch display technology stopped in the late 1960′s? The cheapest cell phone can display time using a nice font but the most expensive digital watches are still using seven segment displays (or analog dots) like something form fifty years ago. When my suunto n3i’s last watchband breaks, I’m going to quit wearing watches. I don’t wear clothing from the 60′s and don’t want a watch from that era either.
