3D Printed Samus Aran Cosplay: MetroiDDD

 |  |  |  |  |  |  October 4, 2014

Three years ago I found my favorite cosplay ever – an incredible take on Cecil’s Dark Knight form. Two years ago RPF forum member Talaaya started work on her Metroid Prime 3 Samus Aran Varia suit. Last week she shared the stunning results. Needless to say, I’ve found a new favorite cosplay.

Like the Cecil costume, part of Talaaya’s armor was 3D printed using her friend’s ZPrinter 450, namely the helmet, the shins, the arms and the arm cannon. She based them on a Garry’s mod 3D file made by Facepunch member medrop. Talaaya made the chest and shoulders out of silicone, and she found a fitting pair of shoes for $20 (USD). She also used electroluminescent tape and a thermoplastic called Worbla. She then used automotive paint to get that awesome sheen.

Here’s a short video of Talaaya in her armor:

Talaaya the costume limits her movement a bit, but I think we can all agree that’s a small price to pay for such an amazing creation.
