DJI’s Inspire 1 Drone Gets Out of the Way of Your Crisp 4K Shot

by Stirling Matheson

If you want to make videos like the cool kids, you need to do it with a drone and you need to do it in 4K. The new DJI Inspire 1 does exactly that, and I really, really want to make cool car videos with one. Of course, it doesn’t come cheap, as the Inspire 1 starts at $2,899(USD), but it’s definitely still a cost effective way to get a 4k camera in the air.

For your money, you get a camera that shoots in 4k at 30fps or 12 megapixel still images and an unobstructed, 360 degree view. Yeah, most drones screw over the shot with a dangling piece of landing gear or some such, but this one’s arms and landing gear lift out of the way after take-off, leaving the operator or operators free to get sweet, full-circle panoramas.

You may have noticed that I added “or operators” to that last sentence; that’s because you can use two remotes with the Inspire 1. The first remote controls the flight, and the second pans and tilts the camera. Of course, you can use more traditional methods like a single controller or a smartphone app as well

This is definitely on my Christmas list.
