A few weeks back I took my daughter to the theater to see a movie I wasn’t remotely interested in. I did it because she begged and gave me her cute puppy dog face. I’m hoping she hits an awkward stage so some of the power swings back in my direction in the relationship. So there I sit in a movie I don’t want to see and the lady behind us starts a full phone conversation during the film. This is despite the slides and warnings to mute cell phones or turn them off.
Now, the CEO of AMC Entertainment, the company that runs AMC theaters, has said he isn’t opposed to allowing texting in theaters. CEO Adam Aron says that he is considering either making sections in the theater open for texters or making specific auditoriums opens to texting everywhere.
He figures asking a 20-something to turn off their phone is like asking them to cut off an arm. I figure if you can’t stay off the phone for two hours, stay home. My fear is that they would designate all the good show times as texting friendly and those of us who just want to see a movie would have to endure assholes texting constantly and messing up the film. What do you think, is this a good idea or complete BS that should be killed with fire? This sounds like the end of all that is good about going to the movies and a real dick move to me.
