This sweet wearable Ultron mask was made through the combined efforts of Jacob Morin, Michael Ruddy of Hero Complex, and Sean Shaw of Shawshank Cosplay and Props. Jacob made the 3D model, Michael printed the helmet and Sean made the final mask based on the 3D printed one.

The Daily Mirror recently published an uplifting report about how 3D printing technology helped a recovering cancer patient. Keith Londsdale had major parts of his face removed to prevent his skin cancer from spreading further. He’s now more comfortable and more inclined to socialize thanks to a custom made mask that’s partly based on his son’s face.

We can now add fabric to the many kinds of 3D printing “ink”, thanks to Disney Research and their partners from Cornell University and Carnegie Mellon University. They developed a printer-laser cutter hybrid that stacks layers of fabric to create an object.

We’ve seen a laptop and a tablet that are both powered by the Raspberry Pi. Tyler Spadgenske completes the gadget trinity with the Tyfone, a 2G cellphone based on the versatile computer. UberBlox Systems has designed the industrial equivalent of LEGO Mindstorms. Uberblox lets you make machines such as 3D printers, CNC mills and robots using modular parts and controllers that are based on Arduino or Raspberry Pi.

The image you see here is not a woman giving a violin concert on an alien world using an alien violin. It’s actually a 3D printed instrument called a two-string piezoelectric violin. Despite its otherworldly looks, it was really created right here on Earth.

Mechanical keyboards are popular among gamers and programmers. Redditor wildpanic outgeeked them all by making his own keyboard. Inside the 3D printed case and keycaps are Cherry MX Green switches, 1N4148 diodes and a Teensy microcontroller, which wildpanic connected using 20 gauge copper wire.

A couple of years ago, Autodesk 123D released Creature, an iPad app that makes it easy to create single piece 3D characters. This month the company released Tinkerplay, a mobile app that lets you design poseable characters and prepare them for 3D printing.

Japanese company Plen Project recently unveiled the next version of its Plen hobby robot. Plen2 is not only more affordable than its predecessor, it’s open source too. Plen Project will even release the 3D files for its parts, so you can print it in any color and even modify it if you want.

Redditor Lauri Hakkarainen aka b10nik wanted to have an excuse to buy a mechanical keyboard, so he thought of turning it into a computer by installing a Raspberry Pi 2 inside. Dutch artist Theo Jansen is known for his strandbeest – kinetic sculptures that are powered by the wind and have life-like gait. We’ve featured a couple of fan-made strandbeest, but it turns out Jansen is also selling miniature ones that are printed by Shapeways.

We’ve seen a BMO toy with a LEGO case and another one that appears to have a wooden case. Mike Barretta’s take on the living console has a 3D printed case and buttons. That’s right, this BMO works much like a Game Boy in that you use the buttons on its body to play.

Attention kerbalnauts! You can now order scale models of your ships from Kerbal Space Program, thanks to a partnership between 3D printing shop Eucl3d and the game’s developer Squad. Eucl3d can print ships in three sizes: 12″, 10″and 8″.
