Last year, Tested co-founder Will Smith left the successful geek website to test the viability of virtual reality as a media platform. Now we can see his vision come to fruition. Will’s new show The FOO Show is a virtual reality show for the Oculus Rift (and soon for the HTC Vive as well).

The damned Duck Hunt dog is hounding us into the 21st century, thanks to Computer Science student Joseph Delgado. Joseph spent an entire day making a virtual reality version of the classic NES shooter. Joseph made the game for the recently concluded Global Game Jam 2016.

Nowadays, video games that don’t involve a lot of interaction are derided as non-games or antigames. And we’ve been spoiled by the ones that both meet this imagined quota of input-output seesaw and have wonderful worlds, taking their beauty for granted.

A couple of years ago we checked out a VRcade, a virtual reality arcade that freed players to move and translated their movements in the game with the help of motion capture systems. Artanim’s Real Virtuality is a lot like that, except it’s geared for multiple users and not just for games but for other content as well.

Leap Motion, the company behind the eponymous hand motion sensor, have come up with a clever way to let Oculus Rift users see what’s in front of them without taking off the headset. It’s called Quick Switch, an app that switches the feed from the Oculus Rift to the infrared cameras of the Leap Motion sensor and vice versa with a simple gesture.

One of the coolest features of the Nintendo Wii U was the fact that the Gamepad allows for game designers to give information to one player without giving it to the others. The Oculus Rift can do this, but to a much greater extreme.

Here’s an app that adds another meaning to Ghost in the machine. Currently in development, VRClay lets you create 3D shapes in virtual reality with the help of the Oculus Rift and the Razer Hydra controllers.

James Blaha has amblyopia or lazy eye, a condition wherein the nerves that connect one of the eyes to the brain do not develop. As a side effect, James could see only out of his “good eye,” losing depth perception in the process. 

It gets annoying having to wear 3D glasses for a few hours to watch a feature film; I can only imagine how annoying it would be to wear an Oculus Rift for the full duration. Regardless, we may get just that.

Late last year we talked about the Cyberith Virtualizer, an omnidirectional treadmill and motion sensor for use with virtual reality devices like the Oculus Rift. After three prototypes, Cyberith is now raising funds on Kickstarter to finalize and produce commercial versions of their promising device.

Growing up, few things on the planet would make me clean the house faster than a promise of Chuck E. Cheese for lunch after I was done with chores. Back in the day, Chuck E. Cheese was one of the biggest arcades around and you could eat pizza and spend coins on arcade games until you went broke.

Parrot has been making automated flying drones for a while. The first of them was the AR.Drone. While at least one person has hacked their AR.Drone to be controlled using an Oculus Rift, Parrot has unveiled that it’s next drone – dubbed the Bebop – will offer optional Oculus Rift support.

You may have seen videos of people being floored by the virtual roller coaster demo for the Oculus Rift. Edmond O’Driscoll and Jonathan Forder recently took the experience to another level by recreating a roller coaster ride for the Rift, and then watching that recreation while riding the actual roller coaster.
