While hundreds of thousands of people put down a $100 deposit for an opportunity to buy Tesla’s Cybertruck when it eventually goes into production, I’d bet that only a small portion of those people will actually end up buying one when they find out the true retail price.

It’s Thanksgiving day, and there’s no better way to celebrate the holiday than with some delicious, stuffed turkey. And while you might yours stuffed with cornbread and celery, I like mine stuffed with lithium-ion batteries, motors, and wires.

Chinese tech company DJI is best known for its excellent photography drones. Now they’ve taken their expertise in remote-controlled vehicle design, and applied it to an earth-bound vehicle, dubbed the RoboMaster S1. This $499 robot isn’t just for play though, it’s designed to teach kids (and kids at heart) about robotics.

Finally, a robot that can bring me a fresh beer on tap. What you are looking at is the Keg-A-Droid from SuperDroid Robots. Yes, it is a remote-controlled beer keg and tap on wheels. Who needs R2-D2?

Typically, when you use a life preserver, you just throw it to the man overboard and hope for the best. If you suck at throwing, the person being rescued has to swim further to get to the life preserver, and that can put them in danger for longer.

Many fans fondly remember LEGO set #1682, the Space Shuttle Launch. It was released 27 years ago, and is a classic. Well, last month Adam Woodworth created a tiny drone version of LEGO’s shuttle that could fly indoors, which was cool enough, but now he has created a larger version that can fly like an RC plane.

Fire trucks, by their very name, should start fires, not put them out. So tinkerer PeterSripol upgraded a toy fire truck with a functional flamethrower so that at least one these vehicles can live up to its name.

Jurassic World was one of those silly summer popcorn flicks, loaded with destruction, dinosaurs, and cheesy dialogue. In other words, I loved it. One of the highlights of the movie was the giant dinosaur with the silly name – the Indominus Rex.

LEGO bricks can build many things, but we’ve never seen them on a functional aircraft. After all, they’re not exactly known for their stability or aerodynamic properties. Believing that nothing is impossible, YouTuber PeterSripol built what he thinks is the world’s first LEGO radio-controlled plane that can actually fly.

If you have dreamed of having space battles with your friends in your backyard, your dream is about to come true. Propel will release its official Star Wars drones this fall. Unlike some of the cheap Star Wars drones already on the market, the detail is supposed to be really nice on these.

How’s this for a fun idea? BMW USA apparently outfitted a BMW M6 and M6 GTLM with live cameras and R/C technology so they could be driven by remote control in the style of a first-person racing game.

Growing up, my brother was a nervous sort and you could freak him out easily with just about any toy that moved on its own. I’m pretty sure it had to do with the flick Child’s Play that we stayed up and watched late one night or maybe Maximum Overdrive, where everything wanted to kill you.

A few years ago we saw a concept for a suitcase that would automatically follow its owner using Bluetooth sensors and a mobile device. Omorobot had the same idea for its DonkiBot, but with a different and rather quirky execution.

Birds are like deer. They symbolize nature, freedom and all those heartwarming concepts, but in truth they can be annoying and cause a lot of damage. They eat crops, interfere at airports, hang out at harbors etc. 

The Internet of Things isn’t just about connecting your garage door to your car or your fridge to Amazon. It can also be about connecting your smartphone to a flamethrower, as SparkFun’s Nick Poole shows in a DIY project that he made to promote their new ESP8266 Thing dev board.
