You can’t really appreciate how impressive the Apple iPhone user interface is until you see it in action. Thankfully, CBS News has posted a close up video of an actual iPhone in action at this week’s Macworld conference: The whole motion sensor thing when you rotate the device just seems so right.

Check out this video clip of some of the horrifically painful load times for the new Sonic the Hedgehog game, running on the Xbox 360. Not only are the load times terrible, the shear quantity of load screens that occur to complete even a simple task are ridiculous.

Space Giraffe is the latest game from Jeff Minter’s Llamasoft, creator of such classics as Tempest and it’s various derivatives as well as the cool light show visualizations you see in the Xbox 360’s music player.

Some guy has set up this tiny little room with a tiny little 1.5″ diagonal color TV, connected to a life-size Nintendo Wii and posted a YouTube video for all to see: Why I find this amusing, I don’t know, but it is quite silly.

Some crafty Xbox 360 owner in Brazil has come up with the Occam’s Razor approach to fixing the console’s “red rings of doom” failure. When in doubt, the simplest solution is usually the right one… simply smack the crap out of your hardware.

While it’s way too soon to know what kind of post-launch issues Playstation 3 users will encounter, a video has surfaced of a new PS3 console which has died a tragic death. Apparently these guys were playing Tony Hawk’s Project 8 for about 3 hours when the console died.

This amusing commercial for the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on has found its way to YouTube: Now is it just me, or is the dancer who does the DVD dance better than the main HD-DVD dancer?

PLEN, the Desktop Hobby Robot is a little (9-inch tall) robot from Japan which is capable of balancing itself on a mini-skateboard or to skate on its own included rollerskates. Here’s a video of the robot in action: PLEN’s 18 joints can be controlled remotely using a Bluetooth phone and can run for about 25 minutes on a single charge.

Looking for the geekiest way to show off your holiday spirit, or just looking for the next hackable gizmo? These new light strings, called Triklits let you accomplish either. The secret to these color changing lights is that each orb on the string contains a red-green-blue LED.

The Retro-Encabulator implements the crudely conceived idea of generating inverse reactive current for use in unilateral phase detractors and automatically synchronizing cardinal grammeters. Also it features modial interaction of magneto-reluctance and capacitive diractance. Huh?

Check out this cool video of Microsoft’s prototype for an augmented reality system known as “PlayAnywhere“. The system combines a video projector and a sensing device that can detect a user’s gestures and the position objects placed on a surface in real time, and utilize that data to create a highly interactive and intuitive user interface.

This clip has been floating around for a couple of months, but it’s the first time I’ve seen it. The headline says it all:

There’s a video floating around on YouTube demoing Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam for the Nintendo Wii. While the game doesn’t look terrible, I have to say it’s time to retire this whole franchise. There’s really nothing innovative here, and the whole thing kinda smells like a poor cousin of the SSX franchise.
