Using an off-the-shelf Sesame Street Yip Yip alien costume, Instructables user Donald Bell created a radio-controlled version that can drive around, make sounds, and move its mouth. The result is nothing short of amazing. Plus, if you take it trick-or-treating, you could probably get twice the candy because nobody would ever guess there isn’t a child inside!
The build’s heart is a plywood base with four individually motorized scooter wheels. It also houses the Yip’s NodeMCU board, microcontrollers, and other electronics necessary to make all the magic happen. There’s also a sound controller and speaker mounted, as well as light strips and the vertical shaft to give the Yip Yip height and mount the mouth-moving servo to. Although without the fabric costume on top, it looks like something you’d expect to find in a mad scientist’s laboratory.
If you’re interested in building your own R/C Yip Yip, you can try following the Instructable. Or, if you’re like me, you can only half follow the Instructable and wind up with less of a Yip Yip and more of a dangerous pile of tentacles and tetanus taking up room in the garage.
