Because the internet never sleeps, director of photography Matt Bucy took it upon himself to edit the entirety of The Wizard Of Oz so that every spoken word is played alphabetically. It’s fantastic. Matt says the entire project only took him about 20 hours of editing (with apps he wrote used to deconstruct the film into individual words), which is extra impressive considering I expected something like this to take years and possibly never get finished because the person working on it died, and nobody was crazy enough to carry on their legacy.
The video starts with 32 seconds of characters saying “A” (with each only taking a split second) and ends with the Tin Man’s “zipper.” And there are a ton of words in between. The same number as in the unedited movie, as a matter of fact, but in alphabetical order. Is this a great way to teach your kids how to spell? Probably not, but I will try it anyway the next time I’m babysitting my nephews.
Of all the movies to alphabetize, I wonder why Matt chose The Wizard Of Oz. I would have liked to see Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark. Maybe I’ll do that myself. Oh, who am I kidding? If patience is a virtue, I certainly don’t have it. Very few others, either, if I’m being completely honest.
