10 TV Shows With Popular Lines That Are Now A Part of Regular Dialogue

These memorable catchphrases add more fun and love to iconic shows with lovable characters.

The best part is that fans of the show have even picked up some of these catchphrases, using them in their daily interactions. There is even merchandise of these catchphrases – shirts, mugs, notebooks; you name it. But enough of that, let’s delve into some of these catchphrases!

1 – FRIENDS – HOW YOU DOIN

It would be a crime not to include Joey Tribbiani’s iconic pick-up line, ‘How you doin?’ on the list. Pair it with his flirtatious look and smile, and girls everywhere are starstruck, on and off the screen. Of course, having him flirt or see a pretty girl without his catchphrase in tow would be remiss. Other catchphrases from the show were memorable but were not repeated as often, like Ross’s ‘Unagi’ and ‘Pivot! Pivot!’. Otherwise, we would have decidedly included those, as they make for some hilarious moments in the show.

2 – HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER – IT’S GONNA BE LEGEN- WAIT FOR IT – DARY!

Barney Stinson is a memorable character with his playboy qualities. In a way, he’s a repackaged and hardcore PG version of Joey Tribbiani. As a character, he has several funny catchphrases, but the most memorable catchphrase would be, ‘It’s gonna be legen – wait for it – dary!’. Another favorite would be ‘Suit up!’ and many other variations of the same catchphrase. Truly, Barney is a character who always brings either a smile or a grimace when he appears on screen.

3 – THE SIMPSONS – D’OH!

As a show, The Simpsons has been running since 1989 and has since incorporated all sorts of real-life memorable moments into its cartoonish world. When things go wrong (as they often do), Homer Simpson’s’ D’oh’ is one of the most memorable catchphrases to be immortalized. The catchphrase made it into the online version of the Oxford English Dictionary in 2001. So naturally, for a show that has been running this long, there are many other memorable catchphrases like Apu’s ‘Thank you, come again’ and Bart’s ‘Eat my shorts.’

4 – THE BIG BANG THEORY – BAZINGA!

There’s nothing like a good ‘in your face’ moment like yelling ‘Bazinga!’ at someone. It’s like an ‘I told you so!’ feeling. That makes this one of the most memorable catchphrases from The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon Cooper’s intelligence and half-snob personality rubs the catchphrase for most. Some people even deem it an annoying catchphrase, but a win is a win in our book! So take out the pranks and attempts at one-upping another person, and ‘Bazinga!’ became an exclamation of joy later on in the season.

5 – THE OFFICE – THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID

In dirty jokes and phrases with double meanings, ‘That’s what she said’ has taken on a whole other life of its own. In a way, we all have Michael Scott from The Office to thank. The best part is that none of his colleagues typically found his catchphrase funny or appropriate, as he seems to say it with terrible timing. For the viewers, however, this is the sort of humor they signed up for when they decide to watch The Office, so it definitely tickles their funny bone. In addition, the other characters’ dirty and often disappointed looks add to the humor.

6 – SOUTH PARK – OH MY GOD, THEY KILLED KENNY!

South Park fans are used to the idea of Kenny dying in multiple episodes of the show, and the catchphrase ‘Oh my God, they killed Kenny!’ is more of a joke than a travesty. Since Kenny’s character essentially gets hurt to the brink of death, and more numerous times, it has become a running gag in the show. Every single time this happens, someone yells the catchphrase, immortalizing it in the minds of its viewers. Some people even join along since it’s pretty much the apparent gag to do.

7 – SEINFELD – YADA, YADA, YADA

Most people have heard or said ‘Yada, yada, yada’ at some point in their lives to gloss over any boring details of a story cause they get too lazy to elaborate. This is precisely how this catchphrase started on Seinfeld, which then spread out amongst its audiences and normalized in society. It started with Geroge’s girlfriend, Marcy, who likes to shorten her stories by simply saying, ‘Yada, yada, yada.’ Soon enough, the phrase catches on to the other characters, who use it in their conversations and stories. It’s a humorous cycle that infects the audience and society.

8 – GOSSIP GIRL – XOXO, GOSSIP GIRL

The ever-elusive Gossip Girl has made their catchphrase known to the world, and it truly doesn’t get more iconic than this. With every episode and season of Gossip Girl, the anonymous character (no spoilers here) ends their texts the same way, ‘XOXO, Gossip Girl.’ Most fans have adopted this as an inside joke in their daily lives and conversations, choosing to end their texts or conversations in the same mysterious way. It just adds more fun and spice to the situation.

9 – BREAKING BAD – YEAH, SCIENCE!

You may have seen the meme of Jesse Pinkman saying this catchphrase. Interestingly, this is what everyone thinks he said. In the actual show, Jesse didn’t even curse. He just said, ‘Yeah, science!’ which spurred on the conspiracy theory of another Mandela effect. Honestly, if you’ve never seen the show, this whole thing might not be of consequence to you, but if you’re a fan, let us know what you think in the comments below! What do you remember it being? With or without the curse word included?

10 – GAME OF THRONES – BRACE YOURSELVES, WINTER IS COMING

Through all its promotional materials, even those who have not watched Game of Thrones have heard of this catchphrase. Of course, we could have just presented the catchphrase as ‘Winter is coming,’ but typically, the line feels incomplete, and ‘Brace yourselves, winter is coming’ feels more accurate.  The catchphrase itself is one of the most memorable catchphrases out there, cited everywhere during the height of the Game of Thrones craze. The catchphrase has been immortalized as a meme featuring Ned Stark during his infamous speech.
