Man Attempts To Make Ice Skates Out Of Ice: Ice-Ice Skates

With over 17 years of writing experience, Jonathan has had a passion for all things tech-related, ever since watching Inspector Gadget as a child. He's disassembled countless appliances and managed to put a few back together, and one still works. When not writing, he can often be found playing video games or accidentally hurting himself in the garage.

Because you only know once you try, Youtuber Works By Design decided to attempt making a pair of ice skates out of ice. How well do they fare? They did much better than I expected, although still not great. I can see now why they don’t make skates out of ice for playing hockey or figure skating.

First, experiments were conducted to determine the best mix of water and binder to produce the ice-ice skates. A water and paper-pulp mixture was the winner, and custom metal blades were crafted to freeze into the soles of the skates. Lastly, a mold in the shape of a traditional skate was produced, the water-pulp mixture and blade frozen in it, and PRESTO, ice-ice skates! That seems like an awful lot of work to make something so ridiculously impractical, and I respect that.

Wearing these certainly isn’t how I want to get frostbite. However, now that I think about it, I don’t want to get frostbite at all. I will always prefer the beach to a ski slope, and lying inside on the sofa to either.
