Packing A Suitcase With A 150-Ton Hydraulic Press To Maximize Space

With over 17 years of writing experience, Jonathan has had a passion for all things tech-related, ever since watching Inspector Gadget as a child. He's disassembled countless appliances and managed to put a few back together, and one still works. When not writing, he can often be found playing video games or accidentally hurting himself in the garage.

Because carry-on suitcase space is always at a premium, fun-loving Finnish couple Lauri Vuohensilta and Hanna Korpisaari of the Hydraulic Press Channel decided to use a 150-ton hydraulic press to crush clothing into compact disks to maximize storage. That’s smart. I mean, provided you don’t mind wearing the wrinkliest clothes in fashion history. Which I don’t, just to be clear.

The couple packed a respectable 12kg (~26 pounds) of crushed shirts and socks into the suitcase, plus a hairdryer and some snacks, and honestly still had space for more. They should have also packed some shoes in there. You never know when you’re going to need a change of shoes.

Is this practical? Of course not, but will that stop me from insisting I want my clothes hydraulic pressed for vacations from now on? It will not. My wife will roll her eyes and then tell me that if I don’t pack normally, she’ll go on vacation without me. She means it, too — she’s done it before.
