Philippe Starck Crystal Clear LCD Watch Sure Looks Cool

September 11th, 2008 by: Paul Strauss

Despite his recent “everything I have designed is absolutely unnecessary” comment, I’m still a sucker for most everything Philippe Starck creates. His latest watch design – the Crystal Clear – is a real stunner.

Despite its name, the Crystal Clear actually sports an red face, not a clear one. The watch features a smooth black polyurethane band and a large LCD display which shows through its transparent ruby red face. A stainless steel bezel does a nice job offsetting the display from the band.

And if black isn’t your thing, it also looks like there’s a white version of the watch in the works too.

Who says design is dead? The Crystal Clear watch should start shipping on or about 10/25/2008 over at the Fossil website for $125 USD.

Looks like there are a couple of other colors coming too:

    Grey/Orange

    and

    Grey/Green

Actually, those watches are clear… though not “crystal” clear. There is a little grey tint to the face from the LCD. It is actually really kinda good since it helps to hide the arm hair. The green and grey one is by far my favorite. You should head out to a Fossil store and see if you agree.

I bought the PH1100 last may and I wore it just few weeks. The clasp opens constantly when I move my wrist (natural human movement!). I am very disappointed with this watch. At 185EUR, I would have expected good quality not just a nice design… Client service sucks too!!! They want me to pay for any reparation if any possible…
