Another year, another iPhone announcement. As expected, Apple today revealed their latest and greatest iPhone models – the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C . The 5S builds on the already solid iPhone 5, upgrading its speed, and throwing in a few new capabilities, while the 5C offers a low-cost alternative for markets where Apple isn’t yet a market leader.

Amazon today took wraps off a whole new family of Kindle tablets and e-readers, taking aim at top, middle and bottom of the portable media device market. The biggest announcement of the day was the new series of Kindle Fire HD tablets, ranging in size from 7″ to 8.9″ and aiming squarely at Apple’s iPad juggernaut.

After months of speculation and hype, Apple today revealed the specs and release plans for the 2nd generation iPad, the iPad 2. And as an added bonus, the recently reclusive Steve Jobs himself introduced the new version of Apple’s wonder-tablet.

A sneaky press release (pdf, Japanese) reveals that the next version of the Nintendo DS will feature glasses-free 3D. Tentatively called Nintendo 3DS, the device will apparently still be compatible with DS and DSi games.

Apple today revealed their latest mobile phone, the iPhone 3GS. What’s the “S” stand for you ask? Speed. Even though the 3GS looks virtually the same as the iPhone 3G, the 3GS ups the ante on the prior generation by increasing application speed, battery life, camera resolution, memory and more.

After the public relations nightmare that Apple created as a result of yesterday’s unexpected $200 iPhone price drop, it was only a matter of time before the company responded to public outcries. Well it’s not like getting $200 back in your pocket, but Apple has announced that they will provide a $100 credit to spend at the Apple Store if you purchased your iPhone prior to the price drop.

There’s been all sorts of buzz and speculation going on about what iPods and iTunes news will emerge at Apple’s big dog and pony show tomorrow, but one odd tidbit popped up onto my radar screen today that I was a bit surprised by.

As expected, Apple today took the wraps off their new iMac models, and boy do they look slick. The new models will come in 20-inch and 24-inch versions, and will offer all of the capabilities that you’d want in an all-in-one computer.

In the same breath that Microsoft plans to announce that the Xbox 360 has surpassed 10.4 million units sold, they also will reveal that the 360 might just be the living room trojan horse that many thought the system might turn out to be when first announced.
