We all knew it was on the way and it was even delayed earlier this year, but GoPro has finally unveiled its Karma drone. This new quadcopter is sleek, compact and foldable, which means that you can fit one in almost any backpack and take it with you on the go.

Growing up, I was a massive Mork and Mindy fan and once nearly drowned trying to drink milk upside down on the couch whilst watching an episode. To this day anytime I see an egg-shaped anything, I automatically think “nanu-nanu.”

Why just buy a drone, when you can make your own? The FlexBot includes everything you need to make your own quadcopter, complete with an on-board camera. The kit includes the circuit board, motors, propellers, rechargeable battery, and outer shell parts you need to build your drone.

First, we saw a robot that could both fly and walk. Then we saw a robot that could fly, walk and perch. Now we have SCAMP, a robot that can do all of the above as well as scale vertical surfaces.

Back in the summer, we saw this awesome R2-D2 drone that flew around using some sort of ducted propulsion with no propellers sticking out anywhere. This time out we have a DIY R2-D2 drone that isn’t quite as self-contained, but might actually be something you can build yourself.

Like the Imperial speeder bike quadcopter we saw earlier this year, YouTuber ajw61185’s quadcopter started out as a toy. He modified Hasbro’s First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter, and turned into a flying day care center.

Makers have proven that quadcopters and Star Wars go well together. So much so that even Disney is starting to cash in. Here’s another great example of this winning combination, courtesy of Michal Miszta aka The Model Maker.

It seems there are drones of every shape and size on the market these days, and while the larger models are designed primarily for aerial photography, the smaller models are mostly just for fun. TRNDLabs makes a number of small drones, with the SKEYE Pico Drone being the smallest of the bunch, measuring just 0.87″ square, and weighing just 0.25 ounce.

Someday explorers and rescuers could carry quadcopters not just to survey but to build bridges literally on the fly. Researchers at ETH Zurich were able to successfully demonstrate a system of autonomous quadcopters that can create a usable rope bridge with minimal human intervention.

It’s rare that I get my hands on a gadget these days that lives up to my expectations, let alone exceeds them, but Yuneec did both with their incredible Typhoon Q500 4K drone. This is no toy quadcopter.

I love Star Wars and have since the ’80s when all I ever wanted for Christmas was all the toys – all of them. I never understood why Santa couldn’t get that right. I mean, I got the Ewok treehouse play set, but no Ewoks and no walker to crush with tree trunks.

You don’t see this kind of flying drone every day. I honestly never thought that I would see this part of my childhood flying in the skies for real. I think I have seen it all now.

Different multirotors have different strengths and weaknesses, but they all share a common bottleneck: batteries. For its Yeair! quadcopter, a company called Airstier went around the problem by using good ol’ combustion engines. Each of the quadcopter’s propellers has a 600w electric motor and a 1.6kW two-stroke engine.

Most quadcopters and consumer drones have a central case that holds its other electronics and rotors branching out of it. But Ascent AeroSystems’ Sprite looks like a toy propeller, with two pairs of rotors mounted on top of a tubular frame.

Zwier Spanjer became Internet famous back in January when he uploaded a video of himself saving his brand new and expensive quadcopter from falling into a ditch after its battery died. It’s hilarious to watch, but it could have ended horribly.

A few months ago, we checked out Redditor Olivier-FR’s Millenium Falcon and TIE Interceptor quadcopters. Since then’s he’s made a few more Star Wars-themed skins for his quadcopters, including an Imperial Star Destroyer, a Snowspeeder and now a bigger version of the Millenium Falcon.
