Philippe Starck Veiled Watch Camouflages the Time

by Paul Strauss

Philippe Starck Stainless Steel Veiled WatchDesigner Philippe Starck is a master of modern minimalism, and his latest timepiece is no exception.

His Veiled Watch cleverly conceals an analog watch face behind a specially electroplated crystal that looks like a continuation of the stainless steel watch band. The entire design is perfectly flush with the case, creating a striking illusion that the watch is just a continuous metal bracelet.

Even the time-setting crown pushes flush into the back of the case, eliminating any distraction from the clean lines of the watch.

French online retailer Objectsby offers both men’s and women’s versions of the watch for $247 USD each.

[UPDATE: Technabob reader Mr. Mojave reports that the watch is available from Fossil for just $150 USD. Now that’s a deal!]

    Can u give me a help ?

  10. Jackson Jones says:

You best bet is probably going to be to find something shipping out of HK, Singapore, or Taiwan. I know they sell Starck watches in those countries for sure.

  11. mike rutch says:

Philippe Starck is a wanker and needs a good kick in the teeth for his piece of crap designs!

  12. technabob says:

wow. who peed in your wheaties today?

  13. et4554 says:

Just received it from Fossil, quite different from the photo on the web, the watch glass is darkened, you’ll think a clear galss would look much better.

  14. technabob says:

That’s too bad. Can you snap a photo and post it somewhere (maybe Flickr) for other readers to look at?

  15. Jackson Jones says:

ET4554, I bought one too. It looks like the glass isn’t darkened – it’s actually the fact that there is a black dial under the electroplated crystal. I think the black dial mixed with the faded electroplating makes the glass look dark. In any case, I let my buddy wear it for a few minutes and as he had it on, just across the table, the watch looks friggen’ cool. I am thouroughly impressed and hope they come out with some other versions.

  16. louise says:

ohh my god it is fricken cool

  17. Richard says:

Say, anyone know if the electroplated crystal is durable enough for daily use, i.e. how resistant is it to scratches? Is it plated on the inside or outside?
