Soofa Bringing USB Charging Benches to Boston Parks

by Shane McGlaun

It’s hard to keep enough power in your gadgets when you spend time at the park away from an outlet and you have a Flappy Bird binge or take lots of videos of your kids or pet and upload them to Facebook. For many people, the only thing to do is resort to a battery case to keep your phone running longer, but those are bulky and ugly.

Gadget fans that live in Boston or Cambridge, Massachusetts will soon be getting benches in some parks which will help them keep their gadgets juiced up.

The Soofa benches have a rectangular solar panel that sits on top of the bench with two USB ports. The solar panels can charge two gadgets at the same time. The benches cost about $3000 each and can comfortably seat three adults.

An app will help Boston smartphone and tablet fans find a Soofa bench with an open port when they need one. The company is also working with colleges and universities to get Soofa benches installed on their campuses.
