When I was a kid I had a short attention span, and often left things half done. I took guitar lessons for a few months until I realized that you had to practice and couldn’t just play Funky Town day one.
The robots are getting shrewder every day. Recently, they sent an emissary to Shimura Zoo to test how fleshy penguins will react to their synthetic equivalent. To increase the robot’s chances of a warm reception, the robot arrived smoking a pipe.
Rovio will cash in further on their highly popular bird shooter Angry Birds by releasing a line of plushies this holiday season.
While they’re at it, Rovio should release an Angry Birds book. Then they can explain why the birds need a slingshot to fly.
I would bet that most of us have needed to work on something under the hood of the car or under a cabinet before, and needed both hands but needed a flashlight too. Typically that means you had to hold the flashlight in your mouth or call someone to help you.
Remember that awesome Etch A Sketch Case that we talked about a few weeks ago that made your iPad look like the toy? I thought at the time what the thing needed was an app made for the iPad that would complete the illusion that the iPad is nothing more than the line art pimping toy from my youth.
Got an idea you’d like to prototype? A 3D model you want to see realized? Well, there’s good news with today’s announcement that Sculpteo, an online 3D printing service, is now available in the United States.
I’ve seen a lot of awesome things made out of LEGO, but Peer Kreuger’s remote-controlled tank is now my all-time favorite. Even though Kreuger was inspired by the Metal Slug tank, to ‘Metal Grudge’ looks straight out of Vanquish.
I am sure that we have all been out and about at one time or another and ran across someone that had to ride one of those scooters to get around for some reason. Those things can be painfully slow when you are walking behind one trying to shop.
Generally, when I think of geeky clothing I think of guys and stuff like the TRON replica motorcycle suit. Apparently, there is a market for geeky gear for the ladies too, and Disney is all up on it with some new TRON items.
This incredibly teeny tiny Rubik’s Cube was created by Evgeniy Grigoriev and it’s tiny. How tiny? How about 0.39 inches (10mm)! Now that’s extremely small and despite its diminutive size, Evgeniy solves the damn thing pretty fast.
Andrew Sneath has invented a vehicle that allows people who know nothing about diving or swimming to safely experience the joys of being underwater, albeit in a controlled environment and with a slight dent to one’s dignity.
The most complex thing I ever built out of a set of LEGO bricks was a police station, and I did that following the directions. Real hard-core LEGO fans don’t need no stinkin’ instructions, and can turn their Mindstorms LEGO sets into robots that do things I won’t do for myself, like fold a t-shirt.
I have long thought that one of the coolest aircraft flying to day in the military world is the A-10C Warthog. The thing may be a bit ugly, but anytime a designer builds the gun as the main component of an aircraft and then straps the pilot around that gun, I am interested.
