With a rich history in the world of wireless communications, Chicago-based Motorola is still going strong, offering up some great smartphones with a great balance of features, build quality, versatility, and value. And with its Moto Mods technology, they’re some of the only phones on the planet which are truly expandable.

Master modder Ben Heck wanted to have a portable and compact dumb terminal to test single board computers, development boards and whatever else you may call them. It sounds like a simple contraption – it’s basically a keyboard and a screen with an HDMI input – but since Ben decided to reuse old devices and materials it ended up being a somewhat complicated project.

I don’t think smartwatches are as useful as they’re cracked up to be, but I also didn’t expect that they could be another way to express one’s geekiness. That’s all thanks to user made skins for Android watches, like njdom24’s sweet Codec skin.

If you can’t remember your passwords no matter how hard you try, then you might find the concept of Biostamps interesting. It’s Motorola’s idea of an alternative to the traditional password or pin code by doing away with them completely.

So what’s  a Lapdock? It’s a dock that will work with Motorola’s “Webtop”-enabled smarpthones. This is the mode that Motorola smartphones go into when they are connected to a TV or a laptop dock. The phone turns into a mini Linux laptop with a full desktop browser and more features.

Google made one of the largest purchases that it has ever made today with the announcement that it would be buying Motorola Mobility. Motorola has its fingers into all sorts of tech markets and Google is purchasing the mobility product segment only.

I think that the Motorola Xoom sounds really cool, and I was interested in the thing when we first heard about it. Then the pricing started to surface and I thought it was too expensive to take a chance on.

The iPad 2 was just announced this week and it’s interesting to see it compared to the other tablets that are currently on the market. GeeksAreSexy compares the iPad 2 to the Motorola Xoom, the Samsung Sliding PC 7, and the Notion Ink Adam.

As usual, iFixIt did their best to tear down the latest new gadget – the Motorola Xoom – the minute it was released. It’s taken a while before the iPad received any significant competition from other manufacturers.

Remember the remote control + pager hack we shared with you a few months ago? Well, one of the big guys finally had the exact same idea. Motorola has made a remote control and dock combo, with the latter having a Find Key – the big white button in the picture below.

The tablet wars continue at CES this week, with more and more competitors entering the fray. Motorola is one of the companies who recently announced entry into the market, with the XOOM Tablet (I wonder what the first XOOM thinks about having a namesake).
