I recently attended the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, and among the numerous displays of production and concept cars, I came across the booth for the Toyota Boshoku Corporation, who makes seating, interior, and exterior components for vehicles.
It’s hard to find an outdoor bench that’s as versatile as the Bend Bench. I think you can gather that much, even from its name alone. It’s described as ‘part kinetic sculpture’ and ‘part functional public seating.’
You’re sitting in the waiting room after a long day. Just as you’re about to position your elbow on the armrest, the person beside you rests her elbow on it herself. It’s usually not that big a deal, but hey, if you’re having a tough day, then everything becomes a big deal.
Despite the fact that I am usually found sitting at a computer, I do actually enjoy the great outdoors. But you know what my biggest problem with it is (aside from the lack of WiFi)? The lack of chairs.
Let me set one thing straight here. The guys who designed this furniture clearly had no inspiration from any 1980s dot-munching arcade game. Nor does the name “Pouf-Man” have any similarity to the name “Pac-Man”. It’s all on the up-and-up, you see.
