Alpine Car Stereo iPod With Serious iPod Integration
February 15th, 2007
The new Alpine iDA-X001 car stereo features some really deep integration with Apple iPod portable music players. First off, it offers complete album and track information, including album art which all shows on a bright 2.2-inch (320×240) color TFT display. Second, it offers full playback control, letting you browse playlists and navigate tracks.

The $450 stereo also can play back tracks from other USB-based music players (although I doubt they’ll be as integrated as the iPod.) Several optional modules can provide HD, XM or Sirius satellite radio capabilities, as well as Bluetooth connectivity if you want to play tracks from your cell phone or PDA. This one is definitely worth a look if you’re looking for a better way to play your iPod in your car.

Nice. But I listen to classical music and I don’t understand why the Alpine display only shows half the iPOD display so that basically all my music reads “Concerto n” and I can’t find the specific one I am looking for. Very frustrating, I must say.
So wait, let me get this right: 450 dollars for standard FM/AM with “mostly” iPod integration for 450 bucks.
For that price you can get double-din touch screen units that are considerably more featured.
This Alpine unit fails. I predict only the fashion conscious will buy it.
Did you happen to notice the date on this post? I’m pretty sure you can pick one of these up for about $100 bucks over on eBay now.
