Playboy Hits iPad with iPlayboy: Time to Hide Your iPad Under the Bed, Boys.
May 19th, 2011
Horny dudes, you can stop drooling on your iPad screens, Playboy has launched their first foray into the world of the iPad, with their new iPlayboy service. Contrary to early rumors, it’s not an iPad app, per se, but an iPad-optimized website with every issue of Playboy magazine ever.

For obvious reasons, Playboy couldn’t put their full issues in the iTunes App Store, but since iPlayboy runs in your web browser, it doesn’t have those constraints, and has full content from every issue (including all the naughty bits).

Designed for collectors, Playboy aficionados, and guys who just like to “read the articles,” the iPlayboy iPad website features every issue back to the debut of Hef’s magazine in December 1953, all the way up through the latest, the just released June 2011 issue. iPlayboy offers the basic image-viewing features you’d expect from an iPad app, swiping between pages, pinch-zoom on images (and you’ll be zooming alot), and a quick thumbnail browse mode. They’ve also OCRd all of the scanned issues, so you can search for anything you’re looking for throughout the archive. Here’s a quick overview video:
iPlayboy isn’t sold on a per-issue basis. Instead, you buy a subscription for $8 a month, $60 a year or $100 for 2 years for full access to all issues. You’ll need a Wi-Fi connection to really enjoy the experience, and since the developers relied on WebKit standards to build the site, you can actually access it from a Chrome or Safari browser on your desktop too (but they say this is not “officially” supported).
Check it out over at i.playboy.com.
