When I was a kid, my grandmother had this matchstick plaque hanging in her kitchen. I looked at the thing for a while once trying to figure out what exactly it said. As it turns out the thing said “Jesus” you just had to look really hard to see the word in with the pattern the matchsticks made.

We can always count on the guys over at TokyoFlash to come up with new and different ways to tell the time. With their modern approach to product design, they’re now asking shoppers to weigh in on prospective designs before they go ahead and create the real watches.

We’ve featured a number of unusual finds from Korea’s EarlyAdopter over the years, but this is the first time I’ve seen them come out with their own electronic hardware. While it might look like some sort of strange antennae or musical instrument, this otherworldly-looking device is actually a complete audio system.

I have seen a bunch of weird speakers in the home theater world before. Typically, the really weird speakers also carry a very high price tag. I guess the makers figure they are more like sculpture than plain old speakers are.

From the looks of this cool new timepiece from designer Josh Chadwick, you might want to hold off until September to buy a new watch. Chadwick recently created the design for this awesome timepiece during a design competition held by watchmaker Cadence Watch.

This new mp3 player concept lets you play with its shape in order to come up with the icons that you need in order to control your music. It’s called the Play Mp3 Player. So basically, you have to fold the player in half, thus forming the icon ” ▶” in order to play your music.

At first glance, this might look like any other minimal modern table lamp, but on closer examination, this unique lighting fixture cuts the cord and can go anywhere you go. Designed by Rob Slewe of BLOOM, the Battery portable lamp has a built in battery pack that provides enough juice to power a high efficiency 11-watt fluorescent bulb.

This modern watch isn’t made out of diamonds, but its face is akin to some kind of cut stone. It’s called the 2Oct2031, presumably because it’s from the future. The 2Oct2031 watch was created by the Chinese designer Tao Ma, and from the minute you set your eyes on it, you try and make sense of what your eyes are seeing.

Sick of having your fireplace stuck in the same room all the time? Well look no further, because this is the rolling fireplace that will set your fire free. Who doesn’t love fireplaces? Heck, even if it’s pretty warm, a roaring fire always does some good.

How’d you like three giant surveillance cameras staring your down in the face every time you walk into your living room? Well, here ya go. Designed by Sweden’s Humans Since 1982, the Surveillance 100 doesn’t capture video at all.

The guys over at the AcidMods forums recently spotted this dramatic redesign of the Xbox 360 and immediately speculated that it must be an act of clever Photoshoppery. And I’m happy to tell you, this puppy is for reals.

The innovative Table of Sound (ToS) coffee table was created by designers Wout Fierens and Miquell van Meelen of Wondering Boys for a recent competition over on designboom.

If you’re in the market for a new digital watch and want something a little out of the ordinary, you might want to check out the latest timepiece from Nooka – the ZAZ. Now, I’m not a big fan of the name, which sounds like some sort of tacky accessory store from the 1980s, but the watch’s cool modern style belies its rather silly name.
